10. How do I pay for college? STEP 1: Fill out a FAFSA (on-line): To apply for federal financial aid, you must complete and submit the FAFSA. 11. Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) The KEES program provides scholarships to students who earn at least a 2.5 GPA each year they attend a certified Kentucky high school. The better they do in high school, the more they earn toward college. They may also earn awards for ACT/SAT scores and Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) test scores. Home school and GED graduates may earn awards based on their ACT scores. KEES Base Award Amounts: For each year you earn a 2.5 or better GPA, you can earn the base amount listed below. For instance, a high school freshman who earns a 3.5 GPA would have a $375 scholarship for each year of college. 13. COLLEGE COSTS Can OR should I live in a dormitory or live at home ? HOUSING OPTIONS: 1.Live @ Home (cheapest alternative). 2.Live in a Dormitory/Residence Hall (campus housing). 3.Live in a House/Apartment (pay monthly rent). 4.Live in a Fraternity/Sorority (“Greek”) House Some are campus-owned – pay campus housing costs. Some are owned by the fraternity/sorority (can be costly).

14. Morehead State University’s On-Campus Residency Policy requires all full-time students under the age of 21 who have earned fewer than 60 University recognized college credit hours to live on campus and subscribe to the applicable dining requirement. Students must be 21 by the first day of classes to fulfill residency requirement. (Students enrolled full-time on-line or at an MSU Regional Campus are exempt from this policy.) Students may apply for an exemption to this policy provided they meet certain established criteria. (*Please note, an application for exemption from the on-campus residency requirement does not guarantee nor imply that an exemption will be granted. Students should assume that their request has not been granted until they receive written notification of approval.)

15. All single, full-time, undergraduate students under the age of 21, having fewer than 60 hours, or less than 4 academic semesters living on campus, are required to live in university residence hall facilities. Exception is made for students residing with their parents in the parents’ principal residence within 50 miles of the Richmond campus as determined by an official state map. Full-time students must be 21 years of age, have completed 59 hours prior to the first day of class of any given semester or lived in campus housing for four academic semesters to live off-campus for that semester. Students failing to meet this requirement will be assessed the lowest-price residence hall fee and board fees where appropriate. If you DO meet the exception listed above (living with parents), an additional Living with Parent Verification form must be completed to request the exception.

16. COLLEGE COSTS Summary College can be a costly $$ proposition….but the rewards out-weigh the cost. Everyone should file for FAFSA !...... Everyone should file for FAFSA !......even if you’re not sure you are going to college right out of high school, you still should apply on-line. You may be surprised what you qualify for. Almost any & every job you want or are hired for is going to eventually require some type or kind of “education” in order to advance or get promoted. If thinking about the military, you will only get promoted to higher ranks (both enlisted & officer) if you continue your education (degrees). Apply for and seek-out any & all opportunities for financial aid…it all ads up! Pick the best college for YOU….don’t just go there because a friend or relative goes there or they have a great sports team. The financial aid or scholarships available at one school will be different at a different school. If necessary, start “small” at a Community/Junior College then move on.
