Critical Incident Procedures Both procedures provide direction for managing critical incidents that involve: 1.Wildfire entrapments 2.Emotional trauma 3.On the job serious injuries 4.On the job fatalities

Critical Incident Procedures Both procedures contain DNR’s Administrators Guide to Critical Incident Management (Appendix 1) Guide is intended to be used: as a planning tool before an incident occurs as a guide and checklist during an incident to assist with key tasks after the incident

Critical Incident Procedures Process –DNR witness requests emergency medical assistance via: Region Dispatch Center, or 911, or Radio Call To Incident Command Post

Critical Incident Procedures Process –DNR witness: Assists injured person Notifies immediate supervisor If DNR jurisdiction fire, notifies Incident Commander (IC) Completes Initial Incident Report (IIR)

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Witnesses’ Immediate Supervisor or IC: Notifies DNR Region or Division Manager where incident occurred Ensures medical assistance arrives

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Region or Division Manager where incident occurred Notifies employee’s Home Unit Region or Division Manager Requests internal DNR investigation, if needed

Critical Incident Procedures Process – Home Unit Region or Division Manager Controls Communications Notifies Emergency Operations Manager (EOM) Notifies Financial Management’s Risk Mgr.

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Home Unit Region or Division Manager Notifies Labor & Industries if there are 2 or more injuries requiring hospitalization or a fatality Coordinates family or company notification Contacts HRD Safety Manager regarding critical incident counseling needs

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Home Unit Region or Division Manager Considers sending a representative to the Region/Division where incident occurred Considers using a Type 3 Incident Management Team to manage the incident

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Home Unit Region or Division Manager Utilizes DNR Administrator’s Guide to Critical Incident Management to assist with the incident Communicates with Region/Division Manager where incident occurred regarding internal investigation Monitors overall management of the incident

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Home Unit Region or Division Manager Sends a condolence letter to the family Assists with organization of, attends, or sends a DNR representative to funeral

Critical Incident Procedures Process –Home Unit Region or Division Manager conducts a review of how the incident was managed Develops recommendations within 30 days of incident conclusion If needed, ensures recommendations are incorporated into Region/Division Emergency Management Plans Provides EOM with copy of incident review and recommendations
