2 About Mrs. Buchanan: Graduate of Appalachian State University Recently married to my husband Ray Buchanan Ray is a fireman at Swannanoa and Black Mountain Fire Departments. No kids of my own but I have a SWEET god-child Harper Ruth I love working at FES I come from a family of teachers. I love to do all crafty things. I LOVE football and cheering on the Panthers and the Mountaineers.

4 Communication: Please don’t wait for the mole hill to grow into the mountain! If situations arise that might be a mitigating factor in your child’s performance, please let me know. I can most effectively reach each child when I understand their situation.

5 Attendance Be here and be on time! School begins at 7:50!!! If you’re not here, you can’t learn. When students are late, they don’t have the opportunity to communicate with me or their peers before school, organize themselves, turn in work on time, or get extra help. Please get a good start on your day!

6 Homework: Reading log Parent signs planner Student writes the title of their book Read for 20 minutes Lexia can be in place of Silent Reading Each week your child is given a homework sheet These sheets can be turned in on any day of the week. Neatly and complete sentences Reading part of the homework sheet can count as one night of their reading log. **Any unfinished work should be taken home for homework. **If your child is spending more than 30 minutes a night on homework please talk to me!

7 What does your child’s grade mean? A : 100-90 I Understand Neat and Complete Excellent Effort B: 89-80 I mostly understand Mostly neat and complete Good Effort C : 79-70 I understand some Not all neat and complete May not be my best I need to ask more questions D :69-60 I do not understand I need to ask for help. Not neat and complete We are now using the 10 point grade scale

8 Spelling and Vocabulary Students have 10 spelling words and 10 vocabulary words Vocabulary words come from Flocabulary- these are words that students will see throughout 4 th grade that may not be their every day language Students have their words for TWO weeks. Spelling/Vocabulary tests are every other Friday. Once a spelling word has been given students are responsible for that word for the rest of the year. 9 Lunch: Students may bring their lunch or buy lunch from the cafeteria. Each student is responsible for letting their parents know when their account balance is running low. Please re-fund immediately! Please remember FES is a peanut free school. To ensure the safety of every child at Fairview please do not pack any peanut products.

10 Snack: Each student is responsible for bringing their own snack to school. Students eat their snack in the classroom. This is a privilege. Each student is responsible for cleaning up after themselves. This privilege will be forfeited if students abuse the privilege.

12 Multiplication: Multiplication tables are key in order for your child to be successful in 4 th grade math. PLEASE make sure your child is practicing their multiplication tables!
