Dynamite Definition Listening is… The process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to verbal/non-verbal messages. This sounds sooo easy… even an infant could listen!
3
Hearing is… Listening is… Being able to detect sounds Natural Passive Getting meaning from sounds that are heard A learned skill Active “But Sullivan—I can always hear you, so I’m always listening to you!” And all this time I thought I was getting paid to listen… I love practicing my listening skills through work gossip!

Pointing at the Process Step One: Sensing Hearing the message You can also find this step in the CM when the sender sends the message to the receiver !
5
Pointing at the Process Step Two: Interpreting the Statement Decoding the message Find me in the CM when the receiver finds the meaning of the message! Sparky is thinking he’s depressed. Ball!
6
Pointing at the Process Step Three: Examining the Statement Preparing for feedback and encoding Find me in the CM when the receiver prepares to turn their ideas/feelings into feedback for the message! I love you, but I’m not in love with you.
7
Pointing at the Process Step Four: Responding to the Statement Appropriately Feedback Find me in the CM when the receiver sends appropriate feedback to the original message. YOU MEAT HEAD!!!
