Substitution You Should use substitution when you have a quantity raised to a power, or if you have a trigonometric value.

Steps for Substitution Steps – Set “u” equal to the quantity – Find du/dx – Manipulate it to match the original function – Substitute – Find the antiderivative in terms of u – Resubstitute for x
