Prioritizing JUPAS Choices
8
First few choices (ie, Band A) matter most HKAL results strong enough to qualify acceptance Iteration Process – Conclusions
9
How to Determine Top Choices 1. Interest 2. Projection of AL results 3. University entrance basic requirements 4. Past admission grades 5. Admission quota 6. Chance for interviews
10
1. Interest Self-observation Observation by significant others Interest inventories – e.g. ~ John Holland’s Personality Test ~ Acad. Prog. Preference Inventory http://www.student_hk/appraisal/ appi/?lang=e (Chin. version = c) ~ Prospects Planner http://www.prospects.ac.uk
11
Dominant Vs Secondary P.T. e.g. Artistic – Enterprising Social – Investigative Holland’s Personality Test (Adapted) 6 personality types: 1. Realistic 2. Investigative 3. Artistic 4. Social 5. Enterprising 6. Conventional 36 Questions

How to Determine Top Choices 1. Interest 2. Projection of AL results 3. University entrance basic requirements 4. Past admission grades 5. Admission quota 6. Chance for interviews
24
Suggested Prioritizing of Choices Band A Favourite subjects, but can be challenging Subjects offering interviews Band B Interested in subjects, less demanding Favourite subjects not requiring interviews Band C Quite interested in subjects Less competitive cf. Band A & B choices Band D Safe choices E.g. some City U / LU / HKIEd / OU progs Band E Very safe choices E.g. AD / HD progs. (some competitive), some City U / HKIEd / OU progs
25
Include a broader range of subjects Include SOME safe choices, however brilliant you are! Exclude subjects you positively hate! Best strategy: try your best in HKAL ~ get ≥ 1 credit in an AL subject ~ don’t fail any one ~ fulfil language requirements Final Words
