Purpose of a Safety Committee  Helps Achieve continuous improvement in the safety of the work environment at BHASD  Creates a collaborative, cooperative effort from all viewpoints of the school district to focus on safety concerns  Makes recommendations for changes in the work environment  Detects and Corrects workplace hazards

3. Benefits of a Safety Committee  Reduction in the number of workplace injuries  Reduction in hidden costs associated with workplace injuries  Nancy – district savings  Bottom line = Increase a safety awareness at BHASD

4. Basic Requirements  Committee must: 1. Have a minimum of six meetings a year (July to June) 2. Committees must have a minimum of 2 employer and 2 employee representatives, meet monthly and be in operation for at least 6 full months

5. Basic Requirements cont. 3. All committee members must be trained by qualified trainers in:  safety committee operation  hazard inspection  accident investigation 4. Committee must keep:  meeting agendas  attendance lists  meeting minutes  membership list

6. Safety Committee Authority  Acts as a recommending body  Questions processes, procedures and equipment from a safety standpoint  Advise as to the best safety alternatives  Warns of potential dangers  Review Building processes

7. Safety Committee Operation  January Tasks: Develop a Mission Statement Review/Develop Written School Board Policies Safety Committee Training  February Tasks: Review current claims Develop goals based on recent claims  March Tasks: Begin Building Tours (one per month)
