2 What is Home and Hospital?  Service is mandated by the state  Instruction that occurs when a student is unable to attend school physical illness or disability emotional crisis substance abuse pregnancy any chronic health impairment  Written verification by a doctor or other health professional  At least three weeks in length

3 What is Home and Hospital?  Under the current H/H program… students meet with an assigned tutor weekly tutors provide instruction, go over assignments, answer questions, and proctor assessments coursework and assessments provided by students’ teachers

4 The Need  Problems with the H/H program lack of tutors growing number of H/H students lack of time to create, gather, and grade appropriate materials lack of correspondence from H/H tutors rare submission of work high demand for course materials and assessments

5 The Need  A successful H/H program needs… easy access to instruction, materials, assignments, and assessments frequent feedback communication between tutors, home school teachers, and students A Home and Hospital Distance Education (HHDE) program meets the need

6 Proposal for Cohort County (CHC)  Has a traditional H/H program  Has funding for… Payment of tutors Means of communication Office staff at central office  Has technology available… Internet access Instructional server IT staff and technical support
