Blender’s hair system By: Melanie Cardenas
2
What will be talking about? I will be talking about blender and its hair system. Blender hair system is a method which you can add hair to any object. For example, Suzanne the monkey.
3
How can you add hair: When opening Blender you will see a cube appear, delete the default cube and add the monkey mesh. Then switch to edit mode and face select mode to select the faces you want to add hair on. Then use circle select©, shift and right mouse click. For the selected faces, they will be assigned a group, vertex group. Open the object data panel and the vertex group will be renamed as scalp. Then assign the selected faces to the vertex group. Next open the particle panel and create new particles panel and change the system to hair. Switch to object mode and see the result.

In the vertex group section assign the vertex scalp group to density to get hair on the faces chosen. Adjust the hair length and change the number of particles or hair to 1500. Open the advanced settings and change from jittered to random so all of the hair appears. Use gravity to pull down the hair, in the fields weight section turn on use for growing hair then reduce the gravity to make the hair look natural. In display section increase the number of steps to get rid of the kinks in the hair. Switch to camera view and adjust it. To avoid the black shadows turn on the environmental light on the world panel. Continued:

You can use your artistic skills to cut, comb, or puff its hair. BE CREATIVE! To get more hair open the children's section and switch from none to interpolated. The children's hair wont be visible unless you turn on children in the tool shelf on the 3D view window. Add final adjustments you like! Adding extras!
