Sneaker Line Drawing Visual Arts 10
2
A line drawing emphasizes the outline or form of objects. You have to very carefully observe the outside shape of ‘things’ when you are doing a line drawing. Line drawings range from simple to complex depending on the range of skill. Line drawings typically do not have any shading or colour.
7
You are going to do a focused line drawing of your sneaker. Your drawing must take up most of the page. Please focus on accurate representation of the form (sneaker) and very careful use of line.
8
Assessment: You will be assessed on the following qualities: –Attention to detail –Proportion –Cleanliness and descriptive quality of line –3D quality –Focus during work period
9
Yellow 7/10 = control over your lines, proportionate, detailed Blue 8/10 = good line description, proportionate, detailed Orange 9/10 = very good description, very proportionate, very carefully detailed Green 10/10 = some areas of emphasis, shoe appears 3-dimensional, lines are accurate and bend gently as the shoe does, beautifully proportionate, student is obviously looking hard at what she/he is drawing
10
Helpful tips! avoid heavy lines at the beginning (go over them later). don’t be afraid to use an eraser if something “doesn’t look right”. identify major shapes: compare spaces between lines. trust your eyes! Detail, detail, detail – vary the thickness of your lines. Video Example

Directions Fold a piece of paper into four equal boxes Place your shoe on the table in front of you and position it in a way you find visually interesting Spend 15 minutes drawing your shoe in the first square Once finished, change the position of your shoe and spend 15 minutes drawing it again Repeat twice more until you have four different contour line drawings of your shoe
