Their job is to meditate disputes between gangs and prevent retaliatory killings.  The program has been found to directly reduce shootings by 16% to 34% in targeted neighborhoods.  Jobs curbs Violence : experts believe that if youth is busy they will get in less trouble. This helps reduce violence in neighborhoods.
