One is exploratory and fits the R21. One fits the R15. Can you submit them both? Both get fundable scores. Will NIH fund both? Can the R15 switch PIs and be funded? ▫ Can the R15 drop one Multiple PI and be funded? Can you drop to collaborator on R21 and have the R15 awarded? ▫ What if the R21 is Multiple PI? 3

4 Is Purdue U Terre Haute Eligible? Purdue Univ West Lafayette (main campus) Other Academic is on ineligible list 1.PUTH confers AS in Biology, Dental Hygiene, etc 2.PU West Lafayette confers degrees for PU-K 3.Regents of Purdue University System confer degrees for all Purdue campuses 4.PUTH confers BS in Cytotechnology, Biology, etc ▫ PUK is accredited independently of PU West Lafayette 4

6 What goes where: Facilities & Other Resources vs. Biosketch PI’s experience supervising students in research Impact on PI of funding R15 Impact on institution (eligible component) of funding R15 How many of the institution’s students went to grad school Description of major equipment 6

7 Which should you request in your optional Cover Letter? Knowing that R15s can be assigned to a SEP 1.Institute/Center 2.Review Group 3.Specific expertise 4.Specific Reviewers 7
