What are Verbals? A verbal is a word that is based on a verb and expresses action or a state of being, but is acting as a different part of speech. Examples of Verbals Gerunds Participles Infinitives

Gerunds A gerund is a verbal that ends in- ing and that functions as a noun Example- Running is my favorite hobby. Gerund Subject - Noun

Punctuating Gerunds A gerund virtually never requires any punctuation with it.

Participles Are a verbal word that is mostly a adjective that mostly ends in -ing or ed. Example The crying baby fell down. Participle ending in-ing

Punctuating Participles PParticiples and participial phrases must be placed as close to nouns or pronouns they modify as possible, and those nouns or pronouns or pronouns must be clearly stated.

Infinitives Verbs An infinitive is verbal word that consist of to + a verb He doesn’t want to buy me any food Infinitive Verb

Punctuating Infinitives An infinitive phrase requires a comma only if it is used as an adverb at the beginning of a sentence
