Metadata planes See SFX demonstration An OpenURL Resolver allows users access to an extended service plane. Resolution of the links they require is configured according to the context in which the service is initiated, (see last slide).

Resource List Interoperability IMS have initiated a project team to describe XML schemas for describing academic resources Once defined in XML resource instance documents are easily parsed using XPath expressions SOAP can be used to wrap distributed messages between an OpenURL Resolver and Digital Object Repositories to find the Appropriate Copy of a resource. Paratools regular expressions could be used to populate Resource XML documents that comply to IMS schema definitions, (see ParaTools demonstration).

Learning Objects and Learning Object Metadata
8
Future goals Investigate how ParaTools could be used to populate Resource XML instance documents that conform to new IMS standards Build more sophisticated SOAP messaging between OpenURL Resolver and Digital Object Repositories, according to IMS DRI standards i.e. XQuery and SOAP Investigate how Shibboleth could be used to authenticate user access Investigate how real time ‘payment’ could be built into architecture, (maybe exchange of credits or acknowledgement). Integrate novel Semantic Web ideas e.g. digital repository metadata visualisation Functional Components of the Semantic Web
