2 New items implemented for 2015-2016 Health Insurance – As of Fall 2015, WMU will no longer provide a preferred health insurance policy through the Sindecuse Health Center GA Lump Sum – Only students with teaching appointments in Fall and Spring semesters will receive a $325 lump sum Online Ethics Training – Required of all new GA’s starting Fall 2015 AY Appointments – 18 equal bi-weekly payments with no break in pay between Fall/Spring semester Changes to Appointment types – Graduate Assistant (GA) – 2% increase Doctoral Graduate Assistant (DGA) – 2% increase Doctoral Associate (DA) – 1% increase Doctoral Associate w/ Doctoral Candidacy (DAC) – 2% increase

3 Doctoral Candidacy A candidate for a doctoral degree, prior to the session or semester in which the dissertation is defended, is required to have earned or completed satisfactorily the following and to have received approval by the academic program unit to continue study toward a doctoral degree: 1.A degree program grade point average of 3.0 or better (3.25 in some programs) 2.Appointment of a doctoral dissertation committee and approval of the dissertation proposal by the committee 3.All courses (excluding dissertation credit) and program requirements 4.All research tool requirements 5.Comprehensive examinations 6.Fulfillment of the residency requirement, if required by the program 7.Graduate dean’s approval of an advisor-approved Doctoral Student Permanent Program; and 8.Graduate dean’s approval of the Doctoral Candidacy form. Doctoral Candidacy Form Required – 1.Approve pay increase from DGA & DA to DAC 2.New Graduation requirement beginning Spring 2016 Implementation of Banner Candidacy Workflow – Currently in progress Doctoral Candidacy

Please only use new templates available on the Grad College website.

13 Deadlines Spring 2016 Appointments – PeopleSoft – Spring 2016 HR will open PeopleSoft – Monday, October 26 Graduate College deadline – Friday, November 20 Changes to AY appointments – By approval of GC Deadline - Monday, December 7 per Payroll/HR Last date to submit late appointments – Prior to Census to allow for HR processing – Spring 2016 – Thursday, January 14 by 4 p.m. No late appointments without approval from either the Project Manager or the Graduate College Dean Lump Sum – For TA’s only Disbursement occurs with first pay check after Census

15 Reminders  Always check the Grad College website for the most current letters, forms and GA information  EUP/Online Permission to elect form; Under enrollment form  Graduate Appointment email: grad-awards@wmich.edu Submit copies of offer letters, permission to elect EUP/Online courses and under enrollment forms. All other correspondence continue using individual emails  Pay Dates – Fall only appointments last paycheck 12/29/15 Spring only appointments first paycheck 1/26/16  Banner Tuition Workflow - Should be submitted based on appointment period as stated in the appointee letter F/SP/S1 or F/SP or Fall only or Spring only Tuition being funded by department or grants need to submit workflow
