4
Problem and Solution
5
Problem Not every individual has the ability to effectively hear the standard smoke detector signal of 3100 Hz or higher. Individuals with hearing disabilities are the target market group for the SNS.
6
Current Market Current solutions are either too expensive or do not come equipped with all suitable notifications. [1] [2] Gentex Corporation Models available with audible/visual alerts Price Range: $150-$160 Silent Call Models available in pairs: audible/vibration or audible/visual Price Range: $127-$310
7
Solution The SNS aims to address the present limitations of smoke detection systems. Two device system: central unit and alert unit. Designed to work with existing smoke detectors. Incorporates vibration and visual alerts within one product.

System Overview Power Supply Existing Smoke Detector Microphone Wireless Transmitter Microcontroller Power Supply Wireless Receiver MotorStrobe Light Central UnitAlert Unit
11
Practical Dimensions of the central unit will not exceed 5” x 5” x 3”. Takes up the least amount of space possible Ensures all components fit properly inside the package Alert units will be slightly larger than the standard night- light. Manufacturability : Product Size
12
Practical The SNS must be user friendly and easy to operate. No training or extensive labor to install No maintenance (ex: battery changes) Simply plug both units into wall outlet Usability : Customer Convenience
