TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 Mathematics Requirements 2007-2008 High School Seniors First class graduating under required Recommended HS Plan Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Entering High School Freshmen First class graduating under required 4 X 4 Recommended HS Plan Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and 4 th math credit

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 SB 1031—EOC Assessments Phases-out high school TAKS and replaces it with EOC assessments in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry English I, English II, English III Biology, Chemistry, Physics U.S. History, World History, World Geography Freshman class of 2011-2012 is first group to have EOC as graduation requirement

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 SB 1031—EOC Assessments To graduate, students must attain Cumulative score ≥ 70n n = number of EOC assessments taken in each subject For students on the Recommended & Distinguished HS Plan, this means, for example Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II n = 3 Cumulative score ≥ 210 For students on the Minimum Plan, this means, for example Algebra I and Geometry n = 2 Cumulative score ≥ 140

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 SB 1031—EOC Assessments Students must score at least 60 for the score to count towards their cumulative score Students scoring below 60 shall retake the assessment each time it is administered Students scoring below 70 must receive accelerated instruction

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 SB 1031—EOC Assessments A student’s score on an EOC assessment will be worth 15% of the student’s final grade for that course A school district is not required to use the student’s score on subsequent administrations to determine the student’s final grade for that course A student is not required to retake a course as a condition of retaking an EOC assessment

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 80 th Texas Legislature: P-16 HB 3826 – Adds requirement that students complete RHSP or DAP to be considered for admissions to any general academic teaching institution. Emergency rules adopted by THECB to permit general academic institutions to continue admitting students who would not qualify under new requirements until August 31, 2009 Entering college freshman class of 2009 This year’s high school juniors

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 Legislation Affecting P-12/Higher Education/Workforce (P-16) Coordination House Bill 3826 Change from current law: Students who opted for the minimum plan in the past were eligible to apply for admissions to publicly funded general academic teaching institutions of higher education. Other aspects of the legislation are completely new, including the SAT and ACT scores and the automatic admission of children of public servants killed in the line of duty.

TEA update for TRC advisory 3/4/8 3 Phases Phase I: Teams of 10 in each core subject develop College Readiness Standards (CRS) Approved by THECB (Jan 2008) To be presented to Commissioner Robert Scott for approval and submission to SBOE for incorporation into the TEKS Phase II: Gap Analysis by Vertical Teams Recommend how TEKS can be aligned to CRS Phase III: Develop instructional strategies and support materials
