3. Health Science 5 Career Pathways
Therapeutic Services
Primarily focused on changing the health status of the patient over time
Ex: Physicians, Nurses and Therapist
Diagnostic Services
Primarily focused on detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders
Ex: Physicians, Technologist and Technicians
Health Informatics
Primarily focused on management of departments, agencies and patient data
Ex: Administrators, Unit Coordinators and Clerks
Therapeutic-PlanAssess and monitor patient status, and develop treatment plans.
2. Perform procedures and treatments, and evaluate their effects.
3. Communicate with a team of other health service workers to provide care over
time.
4. Provide rehabilitative care

Primarily focused on providing a therapeutic environment for the delivery of health care
Ex: Facilities Design/Mgt, Nutritionist, Dietitian
Biotechnology Research and Development
Primarily focused on discovery, research and development for new diagnostic testing, new treatments and medical devices to improve patient care
Ex: Engineering, Specialized Scientists, Researchers and Quality Control Technicians
Support services-
Purchase, supply, repair, and maintain general and medical equipment.
2. Provide food items or other products for use by patients and health care personnel.
3. Clean and maintain health care facility.
4. Transport patients and/or materials.
5. Provide materials and services to maintain patient and employee safety
Biotech-Use complex chemical, mathematical, and statistical formulas to analyze data.

Aide--usually on-the-job training
Assistant--up to 1 year of classroom and clinical preparation followed by State and/or National testing requirement
Technician--a 2 year community college or vocational training program followed by State and/or National testing requirement; many times results in an Associate degree
Technologist--3 to 4 years training in a college program followed by State and/or National testing requirement; may result in a Bachelors or other advanced degree
Professional--4 year degrees such as Bachelors, or advanced degrees such as Masters or Doctorate
