October 2012 18 Who We Are Programs: CIH application & examination, certification maintenance, ethics standard and enforcement Geographic Area: Global (most CIHs in North America) Customers: CIHs IHs acquiring qualifications for CIH EHS oriented students EHS professionals Individuals or businesses who value professional IH practice

October 2012 19 Who We Are (cont.) Funding: Application, examination, & renewal fees Competitive Advantage: Recognized “gold standard” Challenging examination & certification process Overall competent and ethical practice of CIHs Key Competitors: Board of Certified Safety Professionals Other Niche Certifications, e.g., mold inspection, auditing, indoor air Other IH/OH Certifications in Canada, Australia, UK, Scandinavia, Europe, etc.

October 2012 20 Trends Growing number of technical certifications Growing number of IH/OH professional certifications Less funding for examination & certification International shift of manufacturing Changing career roles & paths for IH trained professionals Intermediate level IH roles Regulations & laws Technology

October 2012 21 Big Questions Considered by the Board Should ABIH limit its activities to only those activities required to achieve, maintain, and ethically practice as a CIH? What should ABIH be doing to "promote the value of professional industrial hygiene practice" outside of the IH community?

October 2012 22 Big Questions Considered (cont) Should and how can ABIH penetrate the emerging markets outside of North America? Does the CIH certification adequately reflect the scope of activities currently practiced by industrial hygiene professionals?

Our Objectives Entities interested in mitigating health and safety risk will utilize professionals certified in industrial hygiene. There will be an increase in the number of CIHs. Students in occupational and environmental health programs, as well as early career professionals, will be engaged in a career path to achieve the CIH. 23 October 2012

Our Objectives (cont.) The value of the CIH will be maintained worldwide. Domestic and international IH competency standards will be consistent with the qualifications for becoming a CIH. Certified Industrial Hygienists will act ethically and professionally. 24 October 2012
