2 Meeting Objectives Inform WBLA parents about NCLB components. Inform parents on how we will spend our Title 1 monies this year. Provide WBLA parents an overview of the 2015- 2016 Jubilee Parental Involvement Policy. Provide WBLA parents an overview of the 2015- 2016 parental involvement component of the Campus Improvement Plan.

5 District Goals: See page 1 Goal 1: Provide a learning environment that is safe, drug-free and conducive to learning for all students and employees. Goal 2: Increase student achievement to meet or exceed state standards. Goal 3: Provide opportunities and information to assist students in preparing for graduation, college/careers and assist in the prevention of student drop-out. Goal 4: Provide professional development opportunities for staff to improve instruction and skills set for their respective positions. Goal 5: Increase Parent Engagement and Community opportunities. Goal 6: Obtain a 97% or higher student/teacher/staff attendance. Goal 7: Strive to obtain a 100% Highly Qualified Teachers (HQT) as required by NCLB law. Goal 8: Implement measures to maintain high staff morale and low teacher turnover rate.

6 School District Funding Local budget Title 1-$36,000 (Based on the number of students who receive free or reduced lunch). A school is recognized as a Title 1 school, if 40% of the population meets the federal low income definition. Athlos=36%

7 Coordination with Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) In carrying out the Title I, Part A, parental involvement requirements, to the extent practicable, the school will provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports required under section 1111 of the ESEA in an understandable and uniform format and including alternative formats upon request and, to the extent practicable, in language parents understand. (Newsletters, parent meetings)

8 Title 1 District Expectations Each school district must establish the district’s expectations for parental involvement. [Section 1118(a)(2), ESEA.] Comparability of Services: The Jubilee Academic Center Board shall ensure equity among all school programs in staff and student ratio, and in funding sources for curriculum materials and in instructional supplies.

9 Definition of Parental Invovlement: Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring— (A) that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning; (B) that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school; (C) that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; (D) the carrying out of other activities, such as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA.

10 NCLB Requirements: The Title I Parental Involvement section of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires each Title I school to jointly develop with and distribute to parents a written Parental Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact. A Title I Parent meeting will be held annually to discuss the implementation of Title I funds being allocated to each of the school wide campuses.

11 Purpose of Title 1 Funding: The purpose of Title I is to ensure that activities and services are student centered and support students in meeting the state’s academic standards. Schools will notify parents of the policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

12 Coordination of Technical Assistance: The Jubilee Academic Center Charter District will provide the necessary coordination, technical assistance, and other support to assist Title I schools in planning and implementing effective parental involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance.

13 Building Parent Capacity Jubilee Academic Center Charter District will build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement.

14 Review CIP Parental Involvement Activities: Informational Family/Community Events

15 End of the year survey: Jubilee Academic Center Charter District will require each of their schools to evaluate their parent involvement program at the end of the school year. If the school-wide program plan for Title I, Part A, developed under section 1114(b) of the ESEA, is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school will submit any parent comments and or revisions with the new plan. Plans will be reviewed and revised to meet the needs of the schools, parents, students, and community.
