What is STEM? a)Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. b)Where the grant money comes from these days. c)Not the humanities. d)What they now call the Science Fair. e)The latest fad. f)All or most of the above.

What is Science? A process for studying the universe. Thought to be based on the Scientific Method 1.Ask a Question 2.Do Background Research 3.Construct a Hypothesis 4.Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment 5.Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion 6.Communicate Your Results http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_scientific_method.shtml

Can be simple or complex Marshmallow stick Chair Pencil Sharpener Toothbrush I phone Reactor Plant Genetically Modified Organisms Nine core technologies: Fluid, Thermal, Bio, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Materials, Structures, Optics & Lasers. Enterprises: Manufacturing, Construction, Transportation, Power and Energy, Health and Medicine, Agriculture, Recreation and Entertainment, and…

Using specific math and science to create, improve, or operate technology. Uses the Engineering Design Process 1.Identify a problem 2.Generate Concepts 3.Develop a solution 4.Construct and test a prototype 5.Evaluate the solution 6.Present the solution. http://cynthiascreation.weebly.com/uploads/1/4/7/6/14762436/5064321.png What is Engineering?
7
What is Mathematics? Who knows? A numbers tool used to quantify, display, and analyze data. Wiktionary (who knew) says: An abstract representational system used in the study of numbers, shapes, structure, change and the relationships between these concepts.studynumbersshapesstructurechange And that, before the beginning of the 20 th century, it was proper to say "My mathematics are not very good". Most of what I thought of as math was taught in the Engineering Department at the college. What Kids in STEM most need to know is Algebra (perhaps systems of equations).
8
Aren’t I already doing STEM in my classroom? Of course you are, but nobody knows it. Why? Because you fail to state the obvious! In lesson plans In project handout/instructions In talking to parents? And in…

How can we conclude? Put the STEM in your activities. Understand the other 3 a little better. State what to you is the obvious, but to others might not be.
