2 Online education more widely accepted within the last 5 years 48 states have online learning opportunities 39 states with virtual schools Online population continually increasing A demand for staff to teach high quality virtual schooling Few administrators have a clear idea of what professional development is needed States unclear as to how to address online teachers

3 Virtual schools and counselors can handle the few participating students without leadership support Any regular classroom teacher is already qualified to teach online A highly qualified face-to-face teacher is ready to teach an online course that has been previously prepared Virtual schooling fits in with regular school routines and practices Newly qualified teachers who learn about virtual schooling in their pre-service training will be ready to teach when they graduate

4 Requirements: Meets state teaching/licensing requirements and qualified to teach in his/her field of study Provides evidence of online experience both as a student and a learner; demonstrates online learning and teaching proficiency Has completed an 8 week teaching internship (k-12) OR have 1 year of verifiable and successful experience teaching online w/in the past 3 years Complete and verify 20 semester credit hours of study in online teaching and learning at an approved institution

5 Must demonstrate the following proficiencies : Knowledge of online education and human development Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity Design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessment standards Model digital-age work and learning; Promote and model digital- age citizenship and responsibility standards Engage in professional growth and Leadership

6 Requirements: Hold a current, renewable teaching certificate Complete an online practicum/internship appropriate to the grade level and field of certification Complete a preparation program

7 Preparation program must include the following standards/proficiencies: Content Knowledge, Skills, and Concepts for Instructional Technology Online Teaching and Learning Methodology, Management, Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions Effective Online Assessment for Teachers, Students, and Course Content

8 Academic Preparation Content Knowledge, skills and temperament for instructional technology Online teaching and learning methodology, management, knowledge, skills and delivery

9 China and Mexico digitalizing all of their curriculum 100% of Singapore’s secondary schools use online learning
