Define the different types of governments (i.e., democracy, autocracy, oligarchy, monarchy, and dictatorship).

3. Autocracy
Government by a single person having unlimited power; despotism (domination through threat of punishment and violence) .

4. Oligarchy
A government in which a few people such as a dominant clan or clique have power.

5. Monarchy A monarchy has a king, queen, emperor or empress.
The ruling position can be passed on to the ruler’s heirs.
In some traditional monarchies, the monarch has absolute power. .

6. Theocracy A government ruled by religious law as common law.
Provides an official religion all citizens are expected to follow.

7. Presidental Democracy
Headed by a president who is directly elected by the people.
The majority of government officials are elected, including the legislature.
Elections are usually held only on set dates.

8. Presidential Democracy

Judicial Branch
President – Elected by the people
Senators-Elected by the people.
Representatives-Elected by the people.
Supreme Justices-Appointed by President and confirmed by the legislative branch
In all these position, the people are elect their representative.

9. Parliamentary Republic
Headed by a Prime Minister, who is not chosen directly by the people.
The legislature chooses and dismisses the prime minister.
Elections can be held anytime, and Prime Ministers can be dismissed or elected anytime.

10. Parliamentary Democracy
Legislature
The power of the government is not divided into branches.
The members of the legislature are elected by the people.
The party that has control of the legislature selects the prime minister.
The legislature is given the “supreme” power of government by the people.
The people do not get to elect the prime minister.
