Problems Authors dissatisfied with ACM’s designation of inroads as a “newsletter” Lack of professional recognition Problems with tenure and promotion The quality of inroads is not a “newsletter” as one would find in local community organizations ACM publishes only Journals (Transactions) Magazines, and Newsletters (SIG) Movement to transform inroads from a newsletter to a new designation Inquiries from early 2000s to 2007 More deliberate resolve by SIGCSE Board from 2007 to 2009

New Directions ACM Establishes a New Magazine ACM Publication Board gives approval - 2009 May Name – ACM Inroads Similar to CACM, Interactions, and other ACM magazines Bifurcation SIGCSE relinquishes to ACM its “ownership” of inroads SIGCSE is likely to continue the SIGCSE Bulletin As a real newsletter in 2010 – Volume 42, Number 1 Short news items – four to eight pages in length Likely distributed only online or through SIGCSE_Announce listserv First Issue of ACM Inroads 2010 March Volume 1, Number 1

Final Thoughts Although no longer a SIGCSE publication, the new ACM Inroads will be a SIGCSE member benefit The Education Board/Council should consider contributing quarterly to the new magazine As Editor-in-Chief, I … Thank the SIGCSE community for its readership and support Thank ACM Headquarters for its guidance Trust ACM Inroads will be a successful endeavor for all Questions ???
