Warren G. Harding- 29 th President- 1 st president after WWI- “return to normalcy”- died in office of heart attack or stroke Ohio Gang - Harding’s cronies who were largely corrupt Fordney-McCumber Tariff- raised taxes on some U.S. imports o 60%- highest level ever Teapot Dome Scandal- example of corruption in Harding Administration. Oil reserves for the Navy were leased out for personal gain by one of Harding’s cronies Calvin Coolidge- 30 th President- famous for saying “the chief business of the American people is business” Route 66- example of new roads being built, Route 66 was a famed road which became part of many songs. It symbolized the road to opportunity. It also was a snapshot of the impact of the auto industry on other businesses Urban Sprawl- new roads led to enabled workers to live further from their jobs. It refers to the fact that cities spread out.
