Charles’ or the Ideal gas Law Pressure is inversely proportional to volume and directly proportional to absolute temperature and quantity of gases. p * v=n * R * T where p = pressure in mm Hg; v = volume in ml; n = quantity of gas in moles; T = temperature in degree Kelvin; R = universal gas constant (62.37) Some standard abbreviations: STPD = Standard Temperature at 273 K, Pressure at 760 mmHg, Dry gas no water vapor BTPS = Body Temperature at 310 K, Pressure at 760 mmHg, Saturated H2O vapor at 47 mmHg

Dalton’s Law The total gas pressure of a gas mixture is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the component gases: Total pressure P = PO2 + PN2+ PCO+ PH2O =159 + 597 + 0.3 + 3.7= 760 mm Hg Gas Composition = 20.9%+ 78.5% + 0.04% + 0.5% =100%
