When supporting a thesis/argument, we want to use evidence/details that are STRONG and SPECIFIC.
2
Example Argument: I am athletic
Supporting details that are weak because they are too general I am really good at a lot of sports. I’m really strong. I’m fast. Supporting details that are strong because they are specific. I can run a mile in under four minutes. My free-throw average is about 85% During a baseball game, I once hit a homerun that landed in the backyard of a house behind the playing field. My volleyball serve is so fierce that players struggle to return it. I can do six back flips in a row.
3
Example Argument: I am unique
Supporting details that are weak because they are too general I’m really different from other people. I like weird stuff. Sometimes I act strange. Supporting details that are strong because they are specific I am the only person at LTHS from Australia I can play Led Zeppelin’s song “Kashmir” on the harp. I have a sixth toe on my right foot. I enjoy the scent of wet cat food. I dress in all purple every Wednesday.

Now think up your own statement, or feel free to use one of the suggestions:
I am ________________. (Make sure it’s something you could argue or debate and not just a fact, such as I am tall. I am athletic. I am unique. I am intelligent. I am a loyal friend. I am funny. Come up with at least THREE strong, specific details/evidence to support your claim.
