3 About Trojan Aquatics  Three sports: Swim, Dive, Polo  Middle School Swim & Dive November-February  Middle School Water Polo March-May  Summer options for all three sports.  Partnership with Spartan Diving & Spartan Water Polo  Year-round swim team at Hannah Center (all ages)

7 Vision & Philosophy  Build East Lansing Aquatics back to the prominence it had in the 1980’s  Build supportive Trojan Aquatics family  Goal is to finish in top-3 at HS conference championships  Allow athletes in grades 5-8 to learn and compete in a fun, supportive, team environment  Focus on progressive skill development  Prepare for high school teams and more rigorous training

22 Participation Options  Grades 5-8  Choose from Swim only, Dive only, or Swim & Dive combo

23 Practice Schedule  Season Nov 16-Feb. 25  2 practice groups, by ability  Practice time depends on group  Many weeks practices available Monday-Friday  Divers will practice Mon & Wed Nov 16-Feb 5 6:30-7:30  Practices during winter break, times TBA  Occasional Tu/Th practices will be at Hannah Center  Refer to calendar!  Banquet tentative date 2/26/16

24 Practice Groups  Determined by evaluations during first week of practice  Divided by ability  White Group will practice 5:30-6:30 M-Fr  Blue Group will practice 6:15-7:30 Tu/Th/Fr or 5:45-7:00 M/W  Athletes may change groups during season  Some swimmers may be in both groups

25 White Group Emphasis  White Group practices 5:30-6:30  Emphasis on learning the four competitive strokes, starts, & turns with proper technique  Stroke development techniques will also improve swim strength and stamina  Goal is legal strokes

26 Blue Group Emphasis  Blue Group practices 5:45-7:00 or 6:15-7:30  On days practice goes to 7:30, Blue Group will begin with dryland conditioning, video, mental training, or other on-deck work.  Emphasis on improving stroke proficiency and technique  Improve starts and turns  Increase strength and stamina  Introduce goal-setting, training levels, leadership, and race tactics  Prepare for high school teams

27 Swim Practice Expectations  The more practices you attend, the quicker you will improve  Minimum to make satisfactory progress is 2 per week  All swimmer must be properly equipped: suit, cap, goggles, towel  On deck 10 minutes before start of practice, ready to get in water  Use restroom before practice  Be ready to listen and learn!

28 Swim Meets  Types: dual/tri, invitational, championship  Dual/Tri meets Dec.4, Dec.19, Jan.9, Jan.22, for ALL ATHLETES  EL will attend Kick-Off Invitational Meet on Dec.12 for GRADES 6-8 ONLY  CAAC Championships: Jan 29 (dive) Jan 30 (swim)  MISCAA Championships: Feb. 5 (dive) Feb. 6 (swim) for GRADES 7- 8 ONLY, qualifying score or time required

29 Swim Meet Expectations  Meets = progress benchmarks  Attendance at all meets is expected, let coaches know well in advance if you will not make a meet.  To be entered, swimmer & parent must complete online entry process for each meet.  Swimmers that do not complete this process for each meet WILL NOT BE ENTERED  Events will be determined by coaches, with input from swimmers via online web tool  On deck 15 minutes prior to scheduled warm-up  Wearing team gear  Bring a water bottle and healthy snack  Emphasis on personal improvement and team spirit--cheer for teammates!  Stay on deck until meet is over  SWIM MEET 101 document on new website

30 Meet Events  Shorter versions of high school events  No score is kept at dual/tri or Kick- Off meets  Events are MIXED boys and girls, except at CAAC & MISCAA  50, 100, 200 freestyle  100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly  100 Individual Medley  200 Medley Relay  200, 400 Freestyle Relays  1-meter diving

42 Team Fees 2015-16  Reduced fees from last year SWIM ONLY or SWIM/DIVE COMBO:  $190 for single child  $171 for each additional child in same family (10% discount) DIVE ONLY:  $100 per child  DIVERS: +$12 USA Diving membership (required for insurance purposes)  Athletes with free or reduced lunch through ELPS may qualify for reduced team fees
