4 Good readers always pay attention to the details that support the Main Idea.

5 AUTHORS PURPOSE Ask yourself: Why did the author write this story ?  Is the author trying to persuade me to share his/her opinion about something ?  Is it an information (expository) text that gives me facts, dates and figures.  Is it just an entertaining story (fiction)?  Is it explaining how to do something?
