Why do I need a works cited page? Helps you not get expelled! Ok, maybe not expelled yet… Lets you give proper credit and you avoid plagiarism (Barrie)
3
What should I cite? Any idea or fact that you received from a source needs to be cited Any idea or fact that is common knowledge does not need to be cited facts like “the earth rotates around the sun” or “Abraham Lincoln was assassinated while in office” would not have to be cited (lakewood)
4
“A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” -Shakespeare *A works cited page is sometimes called a “bibliography”.
5
How do I make my works cited page? Get out ISN & turn to p.4 -Should be in alphabetical order by creator’s (person who made the site) or author’s last name (Barrie) *If you can’t find the name, use the main word in the web site -Include the web site address and the date the information was researched -the date you found the info (Barrie)
6
Let’s try to cite this source! What pieces of info do we know? Use your MLA format handout to do it! Williams, Gail. food editor.”It’s man vs burger: Monster meal deals hard to digest.” http://www.novembars.com/pgsgallery.html. 06 Oct. 2015.
7
“Hanging indention” the reverse of a paragraph… When writing a bibliography, you indent the all lines after the first When you start a new source, scoot back out
8
Below is a Works Cited Slide. Can you find what the author should’ve done differently? Doesn’t need to be numbered Needs full websites Not in MLA format

Other important info In your slides, when you use a direct quote or idea from a source, use “ ” and then ( ) You should put the author’s last name or the main word from the web site if no author’s last name is listed in ( ) For example: “In 2007, 37 percent of American adults sought medical information from the internet regarding a health problem they were experiencing before consulting a doctor” (Smith 38). Here is an example of the same idea presented as an indirect quote: Instead of going to a doctor right away, a recent study found that 37 percent of Americans are now turning to the internet for medical information(Smith 38).
12
How do I use quotes from my sources in my writing? Don’t just drop it like it’s hot! For example: Dogs can be fun. “The national pet foundation says that dogs are the most popular household pet” (New York Times). Instead, use some type of lead in! For example: According to the New York Times, “dogs are the most popular household pet.”
13
Other “lead in” options… AAccording to Jane Doe, "..." AAs Jane Doe goes on to explain, "..." AAccording to Blah Blah Article, "...” JJohn Doe believes that "..." JJane Doe claims that "..." IIn the words of John Doe, "...” TThese are just a few suggestions…get creative!
