Name the 7 types of alternative energy.

Alternative Energy Nuclear, chemical, solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal

Indiana Wind Power Facts 1.Indiana is the 3 rd fastest growing state for wind energy capacity. 2.Indiana currently has 8 wind energy facilities around the state and plans for 9 more. 3.Today Indiana produces enough wind energy to power 300,000 homes 4.95% of the states electricity comes from coal power plants which are some of the dirtiest in the country

Advantages of wind energy 1.It is renewable 2.Doesn’t cause pollution 3.Easy to use

Disadvantages 1.High initial cost of installation 2.Can be harmful to wildlife (especially birds) 3.Noisy 4.Looks bad 5.Wind is unpredictable

How does it work? Let’s find out! Wind energy 101

Future of Wind Energy Researchers try to harness the power of the wind Let’s watch!

Your Turn You and a partner will design, draw, label and write a description of how you would harness the power of the wind high in the sky. (just like the researchers in the video) A few things to include (more info is required than just the 7 things listed) 1.Description of how the kinetic energy is transformed into electrical energy 2.How the device gets in the air 3.How the electricity gets back to the ground 4.How will you control the device 5.Label the turbine and any other important components 6.Effort and details are necessary 7.Where would be the ideal location to implement your device? What part of the state or country? 8.Page 167 in the book might help 9.Good luck
