1 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Scientific Method = a method of procedure consisting of systematic observation, measurement, and experimentation, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. Experiment = a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.

2 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Hypothesis = a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation. Theory = a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation. It is a misconception that theories turn into laws with enough research.

3 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Control = a person, group, event, etc., that is used as a constant and unchanging standard of comparison in scientific experimentation. Independent Variable = a variable that is manipulated or changed by the scientist.

4 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Dependent Variable = a variable that is observed or measured in the experiment, and it is known as the dependent variable. Law = a statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes some aspects of the universe. In general, a scientific law is the description of an observed phenomenon. It doesn't explain why the phenomenon exists or what causes it.

5 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Principle = a law or rule that has to be, or usually is to be followed, or can be desirably followed, or is an inevitable consequence of something Observation = consists of receiving knowledge of the outside world through our senses, or recording information using scientific tools and instruments.

6 Scientific Method Vocabulary
Fact = A fact is an objective, verifiable observation. It is the same everywhere. It can be, and has been, verified many times. Inference = a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
