What is scientific method? Section 1-3
2
Scientific Method A model, or guide, used to solve problems.
3
Scientific Method 1.Identify and state the problem – state the problem as a question. 2.Gather information – read, communicate, library research, find out more about the problem. 3.State a hypothesis – find a possible answer to the problem or an “educated guess”. 4.Design an experiment - use this to test the hypothesis. 5.Make observations and record data – data is the information gathered through observations of experiments. 6.Organize and analyze data – use graphs, tables and charts. 7.State a conclusion or revision of hypothesis – judgement or summary that explains the data based on observations.
4
Writing a lab report 1.Problem – what question are you going to answer? 2.Procedure – How are you going about it? 3.Observations – What changes occurred? Physical differences. 4.Data sheet – include any data observed and written 5.Conclusion – What is the answer to your problem?
