Quote: important details/ideas Pg#/ stanza Analysis: what does the speaker, Ha, mean by this? “…our lives will twist inside out.” 4/1The lives of Ha and her family are going to become hard.

What is STRUCTURE? Structure refers to how the plot is organized, and whether there is a subplot. Look at divisions, such as chapters or headings relating to setting and characters. Usually, there is a logical reason for changes in organization and repetition of words. These are some other elements that relate to structure: polarization of characters, repetition of patterns or elements (such as images, symbols, conflicts or characterization), the resolution of the conflict and narrative point of view (sometimes it changes in terms of whose point of view is represented, and sometimes there will be a change in time - like in Catcher in the Rye which begins and ends with Holden in the present, with the main part of the book being his narrative of events that occurred some months previously).
7
Anchor Charts In your groups, use the butcher paper to write down details that you noticed. Who is Ha? Where is she from? What is going on in her life? Why is she speaking out? How does she use structure to create ideas?
8
Quickwrite Based on what you have read so far in the novel, what can you infer about what will happen to Ha and her family? Be sure to use details from the text to support your answer. Your response should have quotes from your notes. Response = 3-5 sentences in length.
