What is a tessellation? A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps. Tilling is a different word for tessellation.

Types of Tessellations: Line Symmetry Rotation Symmetry Translation

Line Symmetry When a figure can be flipped or reflected over a line and appears unchanged.

Translation When an object is moved in a line without turning or changing in size or shape

Rotation Rotation is spinning the pattern around a point, rotating it. A rotation, or turn, occurs when an object is moved in a circular fashion around a central point which does not move.

Shapes: Some regular shapes that can be turned into tessellations include: Triangles (Equilateral, all sides the same) Squares Hexagons
