Nouns as a substance These nouns can’t be counted. Air – The air was full of bugs tonight. Wind Gold - The gold attracted thousands of prospectors. Medicine Rain Music Milk

Nouns as a Quality Cold – He was cold to the idea. Hot – That girl is hot. Bright Death Darkness Error: I saw a hot car. Hot is an adjective in that sentence. Correct: I saw a car that was hot.

Nouns as an Idea Love – My love for you is bigger than the moon. Hate – Hate consumed her thoughts. Thought – What a silly thought. Happiness Belief Feelings

Verbs The part of speech that expresses existence, action, or occurrence (something happened).

Existence Verbs The pencil is on the chair. (The pencil exists on the chair.) There is a school in Clio. (The school exists in Clio.)

Action Verbs Run - Let’s run to the corner. Jump – I jump for joy when I see you. Drive – You drive me crazy. Swim – Please swim to the shore. Wrote – I wrote a love poem. Danced – I danced the night away. Can be different tenses (past tense)

Occurrence Verbs Become / Became Maria became a professional dancer. Change John changed his shoes for gym class. Happen Evonia happened to stop by.

Adjectives Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence. The Articles — a, an, and the — are adjectives. Articles Examples: the tall professor the lugubrious lieutenant a solid commitment

Adjectives - Size average - Sue had very average grades. big colossal fat giant gigantic great huge immense large little long mammoth
