2. Case Study Teams Process: Purpose To examine in more detail current issues and cases in the politics of the Atlantic Provinces To promote class involvement and discussion To learn and apply team skills To make effective presentations To provide a basis for individual research papers

Need Six or Seven teams Potential topics: Economic development issues… out-migration, immigration, employment and EI, rural vs. urban, resource development, government transfers Democracy in the Atlantic Provinces participation, representation challenges, responsiveness to key issues, voting behaviour Regional integration and cooperation energy, sports, Maritime union,

4. Team Process …1 Select group..sign-up sheet next week (alternatively, I will assign you to a group) We’ll confirm a schedule by October 27 Teams meet (with Professor and without) by end of first week in November, to discuss overall issues and organize their work

5. Team Process…2 Coordinate who is to do what in terms of overall contributions and presentations Prepare contribution…do a “dry run” of presentation. Present on the assigned day in November… (there will be time limits imposed) -- Take questions/ promote discussion

6. Evaluation –Team work Presentation skills –Clarity –Technical skill –On-time Content –Comprehension of material –Pro’s and con’s of the case –Issues for discussion Worth 20 percent (it’s a team mark)

7. Follow-up Research Paper Each student researches and writes on a specific aspect (sub-topic) of team topic. Paper to provide analysis of: – significance of issue, – illustrative details, – strengths and weaknesses of reforms proposed Approx. 10 pages or 2000 words, due 2 weeks after presentation. Worth 20 percent (its an individual mark)
