Beyond the SMELLS and through the Plants… In the images above we have a Red bay (Persea borbonia) and a Sego Plant. The Red bay is special in many way such as; when you crunch them up they have a unique smell that is similar to oranges. The Sego Plant is also unique because its one of the few plants that tells us that the climate is tropical (hot). It is also a plant that has a gender; this particular plant is a female! Watch out for that ALLIGATOR!!!!! Alligators are only native to the United States and China. They are found in most fresh water places such as ponds, marshes, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and swamps. Alligators are known to mature to a length of six feet (equivalent to 1.8 meters) and greater. The lifespan of an alligator is estimated to be about 50 years or more. Out on the MARSH and through our BACKYARD… Here, we have the Black Racer Snake. The species name is Coluber constrictor priapus. This is a non-venomous snake. These snakes are usually thin with a gray belly. Because of their quick speed they were given the name “Racer”. We found some periwinkles in the marsh. We found out great facts about this animal. They are a group of marine snails. My partner concluded that they are afraid of humans! We also tried a current myth that says if one hums and places the periwinkle on their throat, they will come out.
