Formation of fossils 1: The formation of a fossil begins when an animal or plant dies usually a water creature and sinks to the bottom of the ocean. 2: The soft parts of the animal are eaten leaving the hard parts like the bones and teeth 3: mud and sand pile on the remains over the centuries the mud and sand packs down and over time it turns into a fossil after it has dried up.

About fossils Most fossils are thousands and billions of years old but there is no minimum age for a fossil. Fossils come in different sizes from microscopic to dinosaur sized.

Fossil marks Some fossils have marks from when the creature was alive such as the footprint of the reptile or face these fossils are called trace fossils.

Trace fossils Trace fossils are the remains of trackways, burrows, footprints, eggs, egg shells, nests, droppings, and other types impressions.
