Mandate of Heaven – belief that the gods choose the rulers Dynastic Cycle – process by which dynasties gain and lose power in China Fuedalism – a political system in which nobles/lords are granted the use of lands that legally belong to the king/emperor. They have use of the land (and the people on it) in return for loyalty and military service as well as protecting the people who live on their estates

18 Dynastic Cycle New dynasty established Period of prosperity Decline, corruption, disasters Dynasty loses mandate of heaven New family claims Mandate of Heaven As a result of these events, the dynasty is seen to have lost the Mandate of Heaven. Revolution becomes justified, and a new family claims to have received the Mandate and fights the old dynasty. The new dynasty experiences a period of prosperity and peace. New dynasty comes to power with support of the people and the Mandate of Heaven. The dynasty ages and becomes corrupt, raises taxes and oppression. Possibly natural disasters occur.

22 Summary Overall the Chinese of the Huang He civilization was one of the most advanced civilizations of it’s time period. The invented many items still used today such as the water wheel, silk, and paper. The were the first to have a dynasty for government.
