2 A Medieval WebQuest Part 2

3 Task The group task will be to create a power point or photo story on one of the following subjects: Knights, Nobles, Peasants/Serfs, William the Conqueror, Castles, Clergy, Women or Tradesmen. Each group must answer the questions given for that specific topic. Each power point or photo story must be a minimum of six slides and include pictures and text that answer the questions for that topic. A link to the topic questions will be at the bottom of the evaluation page. The resource pages and links can be found on the conclusion page. Students will receive an individual score based on the questions answered on the handout( one correct answer = 1 point), and a group score based on the group power point or photo story, (rubric on evaluation page). 5 Each group will answer questions about their subjects’ lives. Knights What type of weapons did a knight use? How did a knight earn a living? Where did knights live? How did they acquire land? Describe a knights armor during the early Middle ages and how the armor changed through time. What did a knight do for entertainment? Peasants/Serfs What did the peasants wear? What did they eat? Where did they live? Describe a peasants house. What jobs were performed by peasants and serfs? What did they do for fun. Nobles Where did nobles live? How did they make a living? What did they eat and wear? What did the nobles do to earn their lands? Who protected the nobles? Who did the nobles protect and how? William the Conqueror Who was William? What did he accomplish? What system of government did William start ? Why was this new style of governing necessary? Where was William born? What is significant about the year 1066?

6 Castles Describe at least two different types of castles. What type of castle is William the Conqueror credited for introducing? What defenses did castles have to hold off attackers? What was the “keep”? How was garbage disposed in a castle? Describe features of a typical castle. Clergy What was the purpose of a monastery? What jobs did monks perform? What power did village priests hold over the peasantry? Explain Benedictine Rules. Were all members of the clergy poor? What role did women have in a religious life? Women What jobs did women do during the Middle Ages? Who taught that women should be meek and obedient? What is the origin of the term “spinster”? What opportunities did a religious life offer women? How did noblewomen differ from peasant women in terms of clothing, opportunities and power? Entertainment What did nobles do for entertainment? What did peasants do for fun? What holidays were celebrated and how were the holidays celebrated? What music did people listen to during the Middle Ages. What were fairs like?
