Chap. 1-3 Hosea’s family was a picture of Israel’s harlotry Pattern: sin, judgment, return Chap. 4-6 Israel’s spiritual harlotry kept them from knowing God Pattern: sin, judgment, return

Theme: No One Calls on Me Vs. 1-7 Iniquity, evil, wickedness, lies, adultery, pride, drunkenness None of the kings called on God for help Vs. 8-12 Israel was mixed with the other nations Ephraim was weakened and didn’t even know it Pride kept them from turning to God

Instead of calling on God, the rulers called on Egypt and Assyria ( who could not heal) God was about to chastise them Vs. 13-16 WOE from straying from God Destruction because of rebellion No redemption because of lies They will become a derision in the land of Egypt (I Kings 18:20-29)

Theme: Forgot their God: Rejected good Num. 18 and Ez. 33 Trumpets were blown for warning How do WE sound the alarm? Knowing Him through the Word and telling others Hosea 6:7 and 8:1 “They have transgressed My covenant” Knowing Truth, instead of believing lies, is a safeguard against coming judgment

Galatians 6 “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” Israel claimed to know God: but didn’t listen “My anger burns against them” Vs. 10 Pul of Assyria, 2 Kings 15, was who they hired Israel had forgotten His Maker

Theme: Days of Punishment and Retribution have come Vs. 1-6 Ephraim will return to Egypt Because: Verses 7, 15 & 17 Of the grossness of their iniquity Their hostility was so great Of the wickedness of their deeds They have not listened to God

2 Kings 17 Hoshea was king of Israel Ahaz was the wicked king of Judah Shalmaneser was the king of Assyria Shalmaneser imprisoned Hoshea for deceit Deut. 28 Warnings: Be careful……not to forget Me The prophet was a fool vs. 7 They had gone deep into depravity vs. 9 Gibeah was a place of gross homosexuality

Vs. 11 No birth, pregnancy or conception Vs. 12 Though they bring up their children I will bereave them until not a man is left Vs. 13 Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter Vs. 14 “Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts” Vs. 16 Ephraim will bear no fruit even though they bear children. I will slay the precious ones of their womb

Gilgal: place of 12 stones set up as a reminder from crossing the Jordan Place of circumcision God rolled away the reproach of Egypt Became a place of evil and useless sacrifice Hosea 9:15 God would love them no more and cast them away They would be wanderers among the nations

Theme: Israel shamed and carried away Faithless Forgotten their God Mixed with the nations Days ahead would be brutal SEEK THE LORD Vs. 12 Sow with a view to righteousness Reap in accordance with kindness Break up your fallow ground
