What is Periscope?

Periscope is a live video streaming app for iOS or Android It can be used alone, but is best used connected to a Twitter account Connecting to Twitter allows you to tweet your broadcasts to increase your audience and followers You can choose to broadcast publicly or just to certain followers Viewers can provide feedback and message during the broadcasts (interactive)

Why Periscope? On August 2nd, Periscope surpassed 10 million accounts Periscope launched on March 26th 2015 (that’s 4 months) Faster than Facebook, Faster than Pinterest, Faster than Twitter (Twitter bought Periscope in January 2015 for $100M. Before they had the first user) The equivalent of 40 years of video is watched every day on Periscope

Get Set Up 1 st things 1 st If you do not already have Twitter, Get It Now (You can set up on PC or Mac, or with your mobile device) On your PC or Mac, go to www.Twitter.comwww.Twitter.com Click “sign up”

Get Set Up Complete the sign up form Your Username is visible by other users (it will be the same username seen on Periscope No BigDog2020’s or PoisinIvy812’s

Get Set Up Install the Periscope App on your phone Go to your phones App store and search for Periscope Google Play Store iTunes Or go to www.periscope.tv on your PC or Macwww.periscope.tv

Get Set Up Once Periscope is installed you get a quick tutorial (nothing on how to use it unfortunately)

Get Set Up Choose the sign in with Twitter option

Get Set Up If you are NOT signed into twitter you will get a sign in screen Enter your Twitter username and password

Get Set Up If you are already signed in you will get a confirmation screen Just click Allow

Get Set Up You can edit your user name and “handle” but it is best to leave it the same as Twitter (this is your Brand, use the same Brand on all of your social profiles) Select create account

Get Set Up Because you have signed up with your Twitter account, anyone you are “following” that has a Periscope will be listed for you to “follow” on Periscope

Get Set Up After this prompt it takes you right into the app There are no instructions on how to navigate the app Here are the basics of navigating The default view is live broadcasts of those you are following

Get Set Up The world icon is the Global broadcast feed By default it shows a map with the number of live broadcasts from that area Use your fingers to zoom in

Get Set Up Clicking the Hamburger Menu will give you a Global list view

Get Set Up The third icon is the People section Periscope prompts you to follow the most popular users Use the search option on the bottom to find specific users (for best results search for the users handle @username)

Get Set Up The people section is also where your Profile can be accessed When in the people section, select the single person to the right

Get Set Up Note on the top right of your profile an edit pencil You can edit the image, Display Name, Handle, and description from the edit pencil

Get Set Up Your profile shows you who you are following, who is following you, who you have blocked, and your previous broadcasts

Get Set Up Your profile also contains your Settings section You can adjust your notifications You can also set your account to automatically save your broadcasts to your gallery (highly recommend this)

How to Use Periscope The start a broadcast button can be found on the broadcast screens (Global or List view)

How to Use Periscope When starting a broadcast you are prompted to 1 select public or private, 2 name your broadcast, 3 set a location, 4 allow messaging, and 5 tweet your broadcast

How to Use Periscope Because you set up your Periscope account with your Twitter account your broadcasts can be “tweeted” This appears as a Link in Twitter You can copy this link and share it In an email to your data base In a post on your social media sites In a Text to your contact lists

How to Use Periscope Make sure your broadcast is set to “Public” and select the “Tweet” option when starting a broadcast

How to Use Periscope When you Start Broadcast a tweet is made for you This includes the title of your broadcast and a link to view it

How to Use Periscope Copy and paste the link in your email or post on social media You can also copy it from your mobile device and text the link

How to Use Periscope By Live broadcasting your open Houses, you will be able to reach a larger audience This could reach potential buyers who are unable to travel to the area frequently or take time off of work Even if you have viewers from other continents, it can boost your popularity as a “scoper” as more viewers means more Hearts Viewers may also feel more comfortable asking questions than they would be face to face

How to Use Periscope Some other ways you can use Periscope in your Real Estate Business Community Knowledge and Events – broadcast farmers markets, festivals, youth sporting events ect….Let them know you are an expert on the area Live Q and A’s – Host Ask the Realtor sessions, or First Time Homebuyer Q and A’s – Let them know you are an expert in real estate
