Hello and welcome to our annual Counselor’s conference. My name is Lafreida Johnson and I am the Freshman and Special Programs Coordinator here at CSU Dominguez Hills. Today I will be presenting on the Admission requirements and processes for our First time Freshman student population. Being that this is a lot of information to cover. I will jump right into the content.

Just to give an overview of the content that I am covering, I will first define what a FTF is. Then I will cover the Freshman application process and what it entails. Next will be the First time freshman admission criteria which will include the A-G requirements, test scores, gpa and eligibility index. Fourth will be the early assessment program, then the ELM and EPT test exemption criteria. Then our Early Start program and what students are required to attend, then I will summarize the admissions process by going over the application checklist and important dates. Finally we will have the Q&A in case you have any questions.

A first-time freshman is a student who has earned no college credit after the summer promptly following high school graduation
What is a FTF? The CSU system defines a FTF as….so now that we know what a first time freshman is, the next question is how do they apply to the university?

Which campuses are still accepting applications?
The University began accepting applications for the Fall on October 1st and we will close or stop accepting applications on November 30th.
Please note, the university does not accept applications for FTF during the Spring term. So it is very important that students are selecting the correct box when applying to the university. Stress the importance of reporting accurate information on the application. Failure to do so may result in the student being inadmissible to the University. Also include that there is a $55 application fee or the student may qualify for a waiver.

6. First-Time Freshmen Criteria
Must be a high school graduate:
Earn a high school diploma or;
Pass the General Educational Development (GED) test or;
Pass the California High School Proficiency examination
Include information about GED and California High School Proficiency exam. The GED or California High school proficiency must show a date of completion on the certificate. Mention that all students are required must complete A-G requirements including those who take the GED and California High school proficiency exam. GED students must also submit official documentation indicating that they passed the exam as well as Official transcripts reflecting the coursework and grades. Official transcripts are those issued from the school in a sealed envelope.
Also include that Homeschooled students must submit transcripts reflecting A-G requirements as completed as well.

2. Must complete, with a grade of C- or better, “a-g” pattern of college preparatory work:
Don’t mention validating coursework. May be too confusing. Continue to mention the deadline: Students may satisfy the VPA requirement by completing a single year-long approved course or by taking 2 semester-long courses within the same discipline (i.e. drama/theatre, dance, visual arts)

Earn a 3, 4, or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) examination or;
Earn the required score for the following SAT Subject Test:
Complete a baccalaureate course with a C or better that meets the CSU General Education-Breadth or IGETC requirement in the areas listed on the "a-g" list

3. Earn a qualifiable eligibility index: The eligibility index is a weighted combination of the high school GPA during the final three years of high school (10th through 12th grades) and a score on either the SAT or the ACT (See chart on next slide).
A California high school graduate (or a resident of California for tuition purposes) needs a minimum index of 2900 using the SAT I or 694 using the ACT.
Non residents of CA must have a minimum index of 3502 using the SAT or 842 using the ACT
If the grade point averages 3.0 or above (3.61 for nonresidents), student are exempt from submitting test scores. However, students are urged to take the SAT or ACT since all campuses use test results for advising and placement purposes.
Stress that the SAT/ACT for students with a GPA above Mention that Math and critical reasoning is considered for calculations. Also mention redesigned SAT scores can be used in conjunction with old scores.

Clearly explain nonresident eligibility index table and how it impacts non-resident students. Also mention that the University will accept the old and newly redesigned SAT tests.

12. Freshmen Application Checklist
Step 1
Before applying, gather high school transcript, SAT and/or ACT scores, and $55 application fee (or application fee waiver)

Complete the application on CSUMENTOR.EDU

Send official transcripts and test scores to the Office of Admissions by the appropriate deadline date

Missing Application Documents Deadline: Any missing application documents must be received by the Admissions Office no later than February 15, 2016 in order to complete the application.

Priority Financial Aid Application Deadline: Apply for Financial Aid by March 2nd for priority processing. To apply, file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Take Required Testing ASAP: All students are required to take the ELM/EPT tests before registration so get started right away. The student must take ELM and/or EPT by the first Saturday in May to be eligible to enroll for Fall. Sign up online at CSUMentor.

Be admitted by April 15, 2016, to apply for housing.

Intent to Enroll Filing Deadline: Confirm the Intent to Enroll at CSUDH. Log into My.CSUDH.EDU and go to the Application Status link, click on Accept/Decline, then select I Accept Admission or I Decline Admission.
July 15, 2016
Transcripts Deadline: Official high school transcripts showing the graduation date must be received by the Admissions Office by this date. Fall change: Homeschool applicants will be expected to meet designated transcript deadlines as specified by each campus.
August 20, 2016
Fall Classes Begin: Also the beginning of the Late Registration/Add/Drop period
After this date, the student may be placed on a waiting list for consideration if space in the fall class becomes available. Check My.CSUDH.EDU for the latest information on what documents are still missing. NSO cost $87 and fee will be assessed on CSUDH.edu portal prior to registered orientation date.

14. Early Assessment Program (EAP)
As of Spring 2015, the CSU began using SAT/ACT results to indicate a conditional college-readiness status in English and Mathematics. This allows for students to be placed in appropriate senior year English and/or Mathematics courses.
The following New CSU Conditionally Ready Cut Score listed below, is now used to conditionally exempt FTF admitted students from taking the Entry Level Math (ELM)/English Placement Test (EPT).

15. Conditional Exemption from CSU Placement Tests
If you're planning on attending CSUDH, you may earn an exemption from taking the required CSU English and/or Entry Level Mathematics Placement Test by earning a qualifying test score AND successfully completing a CSU-approved 12th grade Math and/or English year-long (2 semesters) course with a grade of C- or better:

Executive Order 1048 calls for the inclusion of all students who need to improve their Math and/or English skills into our Early Start Program. As of summer 2014, all CSU campuses now require non-exempt students, who do not achieve a passing score on the ELM or EPT test, to participate in Early Start. All new freshmen students who have not demonstrated college-readiness in Mathematics and English will need to participate in the Early Start Program (Summer Bridge). This program will help students become ready for college-level English and Mathematics before the start of their first term.

18. Accessing the student portal (Mycsudh.edu)
The MyCSUDH Portal is the gateway for guiding our students, faculty and staff to information and resources important to daily activities at CSU Dominguez Hills. The portal login is the MyCSUDH campus network account user ID and password. Once a student logs into the portal, they will have access to information that is relevant specifically for them, based on their campus credentials.
Included in the application acknowledgement letter is the student’s username and temporary password which will be needed to activate their MYCSUDH.edu account.
Students should consider the portal as their first stop for viewing announcements related to registration, financial aid and more. Through the portal, you are only one click away from accessing services such as Student Center, the (Toro Mail), lynda.com Online Training and Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS).

19. Submitting the Intent to Enroll
The student must submit their intent to enroll if they wish to attend CSUDH. Filing the intent to enroll is required in order to apply for housing, receive mandatory academic advising, register for classes and in order to attend New Student Orientation, which is mandatory for all Freshman.
In order to confirm their Intent to Enroll at CSUDH, the student must log onto My.CSUDH.EDU and select the Application status link, select the Accept or Decline option, then select if I they wish to Accept Admission or I decline Admission option. There is no fee to submit the intent to enroll!

20. Admissions Appeal
A student may appeal an admission denial if it is believed that their academic or personal circumstances could not be considered adequately through the standard admission review process or if an error occurred in the application review.
How to file an appeal?
Print and attach the "Admissions Appeal Request & Cover Sheet" with a complete appeal packet.
Only one appeal may be submitted per semester.
A brief written appeal statement from the applicant which clearly and concisely states the reason for appeal is required.
All documents should be submitted together in one packet. Incomplete appeal packets may be delayed or immediately denied.

Letters of recommendation will not be considered.
All documents submitted as part of the appeal packet will not be returned to the applicant.
