9 Introduction Higher Urban Reduction of Customers [A] Shopping Centres like Silverburn offer free parking away from congested CBD which takes customers away from the CBD and the shops lose business [1]. They also provide a clean, pleasant and sheltered shopping environment and are accessible to a large % of the population [1]. [B] Some shops in the CBD may be forced to close, especially on the edge of the main shopping area, as there are fewer people in these areas making money [2]. Empty shops are unattractive and prone to graffiti. This makes the area look run down [2]. There is however reduced traffic congestion in the CBD [1].

10 Urban Introduction Higher Urban Bringing Back Customers [A] Shopping in the CBD has been modernised to bring customers back into the centre. [B] Buchanan Street has been pedestrianised leading to a safer shopping environment [1]. Improvements have been made to St. Enoch Centre and there are future improvements to Buchanan Galleries [1]. In addition new shopping areas and restaurants such as Forever 21 have been built [1].
