CADD 2100 TERM PROJECT PART 2 By: Lazar Savic MECHANICAL APPPLICATIONS OF 3D PRINTING
2
INTRODUCTION This is the problem I have encounter while mountain biking. Nylon-based plastics could not support the load of the crank shaft
3
THE INSPIRATION The Applications in the images found online are what gave me inspiration. The ability to make quick, accurate and incredibly precise repairs to any broken object. Plastics make a great filler material for connections + they are very malleable before they cure.
4
THE PROCESS -01 Finding the Right Medium The answer to this problem was obviously to redesign the object and make it again out of plastic But what plastic was good enough for what I needed? What type of plastics do 3D printers use?
5
THE PROCESS -01 Finding the Right Medium Assessing the key material for the project was essential I developed a chart to explore the practicality of each type of plastic ABS was the best choice because it was most abundent in the classroom
6
THE PROCESS -02 Dimensional Analysis The dimensions of the part were found by using a caliper to accurately measure all the sizes Tolerances and clearances were very important for doing this This application is called reverse engineering.
7
THE PROCESS -03 3D Designing The purpose of analyzing the object was to put the dimensions of the object in CAD software For parasolids format. Easier to print Solidworks seemed like the ideal software for such a thing
8
THE PROCESS -03 2D Designing
9
THE PROCESS -04 Kinematic & Dynamic Analysis Rapid analysis and prototyping was something that had to be done When doing physics analysis knowledge of materials is important. Software has proved the model and the changes I made to it to be successful
10
THE PROCESS -04 Kinematic & Dynamic Analysis
11
THE PROCESS -05 3D Print Process The file is then converted to.STL format where it can be evaluated The software used is Catalyst FX 67 cubic cm were used to print the object The entire part was printed as a water tight parasolid at 100%
12
THE PROCESS -06 Fitting & Finishing
