2
Welcome to Minitab 17! Minitab 17 offers many new features and enhancements including improvements to: Data Manipulation Assistant Regression, GLM, DOE Plus, updated styling for all graphics (new in Minitab 17.2)
3
Manipulating & Exploring Data
Top Enhancements
4
DATA comments formatting stacking sorting subsetting highlighting
Introduction to Minitab – navigation, data manipulation and graphical analysis highlighting 70%-90% of time spent manipulating data
5
Stack Worksheets Data > Stack Worksheets
Stack data from multiple worksheets into one Can specify order of stacked data Data > Stack Worksheets
6
Data Coding Improvements
Easily identify and correct data entry errors Code numbers into meaningful values Simplified menu choices (reduced from 10 to 4 menus) Automatically recognizes current values Additional storage options Data > Code
7
Just right-click on your data to…
With the option to undo (control-z) and redo (control-y) changes to a given worksheet
8
Change Column Formats e.g. easily convert TEXT column to NUMERIC
No longer have to use Data menu – can change format directly in the worksheet Can change data type and format all at once Right-click > Format Column
9
Format Data using a Condition
Right-click > Conditional Formatting
10
Sort and Subset Sort and Subset available via right-click
Dialog improvements, plus option to sort and subset based on conditional formats Ability to sort and subset worksheets with unequal column lengths
11
Cell Formats and Comments
] can be used to highlight cells, or entire rows and columns Right-click > Cell Properties
12
The Assistant Top Enhancements
13
Making Data Analysis Even Easier
Over the years, customers have told us: “I don’t know which tool to use” “The dialogs are too technical” “Minitab has too many options” “I need help interpreting my results”
14
Graphs Regres-sion DOE
ASSISTANT Graphs Capability Regres-sion Hypothesis Tests MSA DOE Control Charts Designed for Green/Black Belts, occasional users, and those who are new to statistics or Minitab
15
Modeling designs (x & x2)
Assistant for DOE DOE easier than ever Most requested Assistant feature Screening designs Modeling designs (x & x2) 6-15 factors The Assistant DOE tools reflect a sequential approach to the experimentation process. To support this approach, we provide a screening design and a modeling design. The objective of the screening design is to analyze the main effects of 6 to 15 factors and help you identify the factors that have greatest influence on the response. The modeling design analyzes 2 to 5 critical factors (both linear and quadratic models) to find optimal settings for your process. Note: Designs created in the Assistant can also be analyzed using core Minitab. 2-5 factors 2
16
Assistant for Multiple Regression
Up to 5 X’s (with 1 categorical X) By default, includes 2-way interactions and quadratic terms (see dialog check box)
17
Regression & GLM Top Enhancements
18
Easily specify factors Automatic model selection More graphs Response
Regression Binary Logistic Regression GLM Easily specify factors Automatic model selection More graphs Response optimizer Linear models overhaul includes: Model builder – easier way to specify model Don’t have to do stepwise > back to regression, and can include categorical x’s Predict with categorical dropdowns Optimizer Saves model throughout Mention Binary Logistic Regr and GLM View model buttons and new toolbars
19
Design of Experiments Top Enhancements
20
Automatic model selection
Yield.mtw
21
Response Optimizer for General Factorial Designs (>2 levels)
(with no inputs required for maximizing or minimizing a response)
22
Response Surface with Categorical X’s
23
Additional Features Additional Features
24
Bubble Plots Graph multiple variables in a 2D space
25
Automatic Footnotes for Excluded Data
Available for the Graph menu and Control Charts
26
New graph update status symbols

27
Additional Assistant Improvements
Expanded Graphical Analysis results Stacked data option for 2-sample tests Chi-Square Goodness-of-Fit up to 12 levels (from 6) Capability analysis for unequal subgroup sizes Before/after control charts, plus Laney charts And more… Bubble plot: Graph 3 (or more) variables in a 2D space – plot X and Y with bubble size to represent a third variable.
28
Outlier Tests – Grubbs’ and Dixon’s
Outlier tests: Use these new outlier test(s) to detect outliers in a dataset
29
y = f (x) Poisson Regression
Model count data (Y), typically low counts/rare events Examples: number of machine failures or C-sections per time period Historical application In 1898, Ladislaus Bortkiewicz’s investigation of the number of Prussian army soldiers killed by horse kicks Poisson regression: Similar to other regression tools, use Poisson regression to model count data (instead of a continuous Y) in a finite observations space (e.g. time period). Examples of count data include the number of machine failures or c-sections per day. Using Poisson regression ensures predictions are positive.
30
Equivalence Tests Determine if mean(s) are similar enough to be considered equivalent Equivalence tests: Pharmaceutical and food industries typically. These tests are used to determine if the mean(s) are similar enough to be considered equivalent, accounting for the fact that small differences may not be practically important. For example, you can use a 2-sample equivalence test to determine if the mean of a test product is equivalent to the mean of a reference product (e.g. generic vs. established drug, cheaper material vs. original material), where a significant p-value indicates equivalence. Ex. Traditional t-test H0: mean= vs H1: mean≠600 Ex. Equivalence t-test H0: mean≤598 or mean≥602 vs. H1: 598<mean<602 2x2 Crossover is a two sample procedure used in drug testing. You take drug 1, then after some time period, take drug 2. There may be some carryover effect due to the 1st drug still being in your system when you take the 2nd drug.
31
Stability Studies Used in Pharma to determine shelf-life
Stability studies: Used by the pharmaceutical market, stability studies are used to evaluate concentration data to determine the shelf life of a drug product (e.g. Y=drug concentration, X=time). Initial model: Time + Batch + Time*Batch
32
DOE Box-Cox for Factorial and RS Non-hierarchical models
Effects, main effects and interaction plots can display all terms, including terms removed from model Cube plots of fitted values available for reduced models Response optimizer: Constraints for Factorial and RS Doesn’t require min/max value Provides CI and PI tables
33
