4 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Objectives The aim is to help the user – independent of his knowledge – to find the best way towards the needed property. Depending on his application he has to be guided to the database and if no values are available he will be be guided to the optimum measurement technique and then to the appropriate laboratory.

5 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Measurement Techniques I The relevant criteria to select measurement technique are: -- sample geometry -- temperature range -- type of materials Main measurement techniques and there representation within EVITherM -- Stationary techniques (LNE, ZAE), -- transient techniques (IPSAS, LNE, ZAE): thermal diffusivity, calculation of thermal conductivity -- micro/nano-scale techniques (INSA), -- subsecond techniques (IMGC) -- el. resistivity (IKE, IMGC), calculation of thermal conductivity -- heat flow (TNO) -- photo thermal methods for thin film thermal conductivity-measurements

6 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Measurement Techniques II Written standards -collection of national, European, ASTM and international standards -translation of key-words, titles, etc. to the English language -publication to the WEB-page (database) - if necessary: recommendation of the development of new written standards on CEN/ISO-level Written standards exist for many measurement techniques. An important working point will be the comparison of different existing written standards, with aim of harmonisation

7 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Compilation of Data I Reference Materials Collection of existing reference materials, recommendation for qualification of new materials Compile qualified data for relevant industrial materials - metals (up to and above melting point), - ceramics, glasses, carbon based, - synthetic materials, - insulation materials for measurement laboratories: for the user:

8 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Compilation of Data II - measurement results, - measurement technique and experimental conditions, - uncertainties, - measurement parameters, - material description, - reference. Important information to provide complete datasets.

9 IKE Kick Off meeting 27.01.03 WP4 Direct Transfer of Properties Data from Laboratories to the planned EVITherM-DB Advantages for suppliers –Publication easier than via scientific journals –Feedback from the user –Reimbursement if data are sold to users Advantages for users –Easy access to new data without delay –Improved reliability since review is by experts –Fast contact to the supplier if questions remain Compilation of Data III
