Foundation Stage Curriculum We are the final stage of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Your child will have been accessing this curriculum in their pre-school settings. We will observe your child discovering in the unit and record the significant learning that is taking place. We will then plan for the next natural steps in their learning. We will be using an electronic learning journal ‘Tapestry’ to record your child’s learning. We would like to share each experience with you and give you the opportunity to look at photographs, watch short video clips and make comments. We will need an e mail address. Your child’s class teacher will talk to you about this at the home visit.

Wow wall and wow cards We would like you as parents/carers to share with us any ‘wow moments’ that happen at home. A wow moment can be the first time your child reads their book or the first time they tidy up without being asked! All wow moments will be celebrated in school and displayed on our wow wall. ‘Wow’ cards will be sent home on a regular basis.

Book bags and reading Your child will need a book bag, they are available from the school office at a cost of £3.00 Your child will need to bring their book bag into school everyday. We expect you to read with your child at least 3 times a week. They will have a new reading book each time they have read. Your child will bring home new sounds and words each week. Please help them to learn these.

Projects / Home Learning As part of the curriculum your child will be involved in planning and managing the projects that take place each half term. As part of these projects your child will be encouraged to complete a piece of home learning which supports the project. This could be making a poster, writing a diary or making a kite. At the end of some projects your child will invite you to their outcome to showcase their new learning. In previous projects this has been a talent show or flying their own kites.

Milk We use a company called ‘cool milk’ who provide all children under 5 years old with free milk every day. We will provide more information at your home visit. You must register with the company. When your child is approaching 5 years old, ‘cool milk’ will contact you to ask if you want to continue, if you do you, it costs about £0.22 a day. You pay the company directly, not the school It has been very successful this year with over 85% of children drinking milk.
