Developed by University of Missouri community development specialists Larry Dickerson, John Gulick, Connie Mefford, and Georgia Stuart-Simmons John serves on a board that oversees a homeless shelter. At a recent meeting, the board set a new policy requiring that all residents of the shelter vacate the premises between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., in an effort to save on staff salaries and allow time for cleaning the facility. John feels strongly that this was a bad decision. He is concerned that some of the residents have no place to go during the day, and that during bad weather they would be at risk. He expressed these concerns during the meeting, but the majority of the board voted for the change. How would you suggest John handle this difference of opinion? Group Activity: Case Study
